<image:caption>25 years ago Sufjan Stevens recorded and produced this whole record with the first little song-poems I’d been playing with, and in the process totally validated me as a musician and I’ve been finding my way every since. Thanks Sufjan. Thanks Lowell. Thanks Michael Kaufmann. Thanks Asthmatic Kitty. I love you</image:caption>

<image:caption>In November 2021 Wayne called me and asked if I’d like to make a record with him. He wanted to make a Doom Dub Folk record entirely on his phone with the free GarageBand App. Wayne’s songs layered together dozens of tracks to create all kinds of feelings, so I was happy to contribute vocals, and a tiny bit of real live noise guitar. In October 2022 Wayne and I had a whole week of BAND CAMP! during which he visited my family and continuously edited between short sessions of recording live together, until the project was done. If you ever want to feel young and happy, take a whole week off from your day job and spend the whole time with friends, making stuff, eating together, giggling, and listening to music through sweet over-ear headphones upon a pair of ginormous bean bag chairs. Yes, we lived the dream. I hope you catch those feelings when you hear it. Read up on Wayne here, you’ll love him. WAYNE $ FELDMAN</image:caption>

<image:title>Every record has a story - 2016</image:title>
<image:caption>This is the record I made with my dad-friends in Indianapolis. They are all very accomplished rockers, but they were happy to flesh out my songs into a live format. We mostly recorded at Clinton’s house. He’s a full-time audiophile, gear head, multi-instrumentalist, and sound engineer. The way committed parents do, by meeting faithfully once per week over the course of a couple of years, we arranged these songs together, recorded, played a few shows and had a great time with it. With the “album cycle” complete, we allowed our efforts to turn to other personal commitments and interests (as committed parents do.) Here’s more info on my Brothers in Rock, you’ll love them Clinton Hughey - Guitar Dan Fahrner - Drums Burd Phillips - Bass</image:caption>

<image:title>Every record has a story - 2010</image:title>
<image:caption>This is the record I mostly wrote with voice while moving through the daily domestic tasks required of my young family. I am an unmoored dreamer on my own, so I’m very grateful for my family who keep me grounded and safe from drifting off into ether. Still, my mind would set adrift into imagining these songs while driving, cooking, pushing a stroller, rockabye baby and the like. The best part of this process was co-writing a couple of songs with Chris Schlarb. That was the first time I real-time invented a melody/lyric combo while Chris played me a guitar part he’d written. That was magic. Anyway, I got distracted or insecure or whatever and let the songs sit on a shelf for a few years. One day Rafter reminded me that he was available and so I gathered my wits about me and went to San Diego to make the record with Rafter. Rafter is truly ingenious in his work as a sound engineer, singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and he’s also an incredibly kind and generous person. Rafter showed me what it looks like to be a feminist, and built me up when I was shrinking like a violet. This record would never have existed without Chris & Rafter - Read up Rafter here, you’ll love him. RAFTER</image:caption>

<image:title>Every record has a story - 2004</image:title>
<image:caption>This is the first record I really made on purpose. It was very collaborative, incorporating the poetry of Michael Kaufmann and being quite green and bewildered by the whole experience, I relied on every musician to bring original contributions to the songs. With Rafter at the helm keeping it weird and noisy and on task, it actually became a record. A bunch of heavy hitters played on this, read up on them here, you’ll love them. <image:caption>This is the record that I made with Chris Schlarb in Long Beach. He called me up to see if I’d want to make a record of a bunch of public domain songs, like old-timey folk and gospel stuff. I was very distracted by life at that time, so in the end Chris curated all of the songs and I just sang. The recording process was unique in that he rented out a converted garage out back of a friend’s house, and all the Create(!) guys sat around we played and sang and recorded the whole thing live in one room. It was brilliant. At this point Chris Schlarb is legendary. Read up on him here, you’ll love him. CHRIS SCHLARB</image:caption>

<image:title>Every record has a story - 2001</image:title>
<image:caption>This is the record that Sufjan made for me. I had a collection of songs I’d written alone in my room with a 3/4 sized nylon string parlor guitar. I spent two days recording with him in Brooklyn, NY where he’d built a little sound room in the middle of a loft. Sufjan was just as kind and good humored, as I was shy and anxious. He was my first live audience, and he let me sing and play at the same time with a couple of mics in the room, so no fussing. For this reason I personally credit him as a sort of Alan Lomax, gathering together my little introspective songs born of solitude. But two months later, I returned from travel, to a lush exquisite complete album. I could not believe my ears, but I ecstatically replied “Yes Please.” For this reason I also credit him as an artist of unmatchable originality, imagination, multi-instrumental giftedness, and generosity of spirit. He’s the best. Read up on him here, you’ll love him. SUFJAN STEVENS</image:caption>
